The International Observatory on Statelessness


The International Observatory on Statelessness is a collaborative project between Oxford Brookes University and the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford to:

  • collate national data on patterns, types and conditions of statelessness to further knowledge;

  • promote research on patterns and causes of statelessness by means of gathering data on the state of nationality and citizenship legislation, systems of protection, and factors that contribute to the problem of statelessness;

Open Society Justice Initiative - Statelessness Project


Open Society Justice Initiative is working towards making the right to citizenship a reality for all by:

  • documenting the plight of stateless people through official reports and documentary photography;

  • partnering with local advocates to bring lawsuits challenging citizenship discrimination;

  • advocating for change in international bodies such as the United Nations, the African Union, and the U.S. State Department;

Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights


Equality Now, the Equal Rights Trust, Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, UNHCR, UN Women and the Women’s Refugee Commission have formed a steering committee to lead the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights.
